Sydney Paris

Sydney Paris is an associate with SOMMVINUM. When not working along side
SOMMVINUM, Sydney specializes in small beverage consultancy, centering
around hospitality (20+ years running restaurants), teaching to both
neophytes and oenophiles, as well as cellar construction and procuring the
wines to fill them. He also makes wine for select private clients and has
piloted the world’s 1st guéridon rolling sommelier for major sports franchise
(SF 49ers luxury suites).

He began working with wine while in Europe doing graduate work at the
university, eventually obtaining an International MBA.  Once back Stateside
and trading currencies in NY, he longed for a return to wine and hasn’t
looked back.

Education is close to Sydney’s heart.  While obtaining Advanced certification
with the Court of Master Sommeliers, The Wine & Spirits Education Trust
Diploma), BarSmarts, and the Cicerone program, he mentors countless
students in these areas as well.  He takes great pride in the pin studded lapels
of his students.  By his sheer age and tenacity, he may be responsible for
more drinking than anyone in the world.  We may never know for sure.

A sommelier (/ˈsɒməljeɪ/ or /sʌməlˈjeɪ/; French pronunciation: ​[sɔməlje]), or wine steward, is a trained and knowledgeable wine professional, who specializes in all aspects of wine service as well as wine and food pairing. The role is much more specialized and informed than that of a wine waiter in fine dining today.
